Glenwood Canyon Bike Trail Update
OCTOBER 22, 2011
Currently, the Colorado Dept of Transportation has closed a 2.8 mile section of the Glenwood Canyon Bike Trail due to damage from the river flooding. The closure is from the Hanging Lake Rest Area (exit 125 on I-70) to the Shoshone Rest Area (exit 123 on I-70). FYI: The latest report from CDOT indicates this portion of the trail will likely be closed through the end of the 2011 biking season. For more information, please don't hesitate to call us.
7.4 miles of trail is accessible, rideable and gorgeous between Glenwood Springs and the Shoshone Hydro-Electric Plant! An additional 6 miles of trail is open from Hanging Lake to Dotsero, the eastern trailhead.
So, what does this mean to you?...................
YOU CAN STILL GO BIKING!
- Out and back ride, from the Canyon Bikes office:
From our office to the Shoshone Hydro-Electric plant is 7.4 miles, about 15 miles round trip.
- Famous Canyon BIkes Shuttle:
Even with the closure you can still take the Canyon Shuttle! Just like normal we will take you to the eastern trailhead @ Dotsero. We will then meet you at the Hanging Lake rest area and shuttle you around the damaged area. You will finish your ride back to Canyon Bikes at your leisure. This is still the most popular ride. See the entire Glenwood Canyon in the downhill direction! Plus you can still HIKE the Hanging Lake Trail. Call for more details.
